I have just completed an order with Barcham and am waiting for my trees to be delivered, do I need stakes to secure my trees following planting?
It is recommended that newly planted trees are staked for the first two seasons following planting. The function of staking is to enable the tree some time to establish anchor roots to hold it upright before subjecting it to the perils of harsh weather conditions.
There is an option to purchase the necessary equipment for staking your trees from Barcham at the time of order. Barcham recommend that two stakes are used in conjunction with rubber tie for each tree. Stakes can then be driven either side of the root system, and the tie connected to the stake at the very top, around the stem and back to the stake.
For more information please refer to our Planting Information.
I have placed a tree order with Barcham, how will they be delivered?
Here at Barcham we operate a nationwide delivery service. The trees are transported on Lorries that range from 10 ton rigid Lorries to articulated, curtain sided Lorries. Although contracted out to hauliers, rather than being owned by Barcham, the companies that we use for our haulage offer flexible and reliable services to us and our customers.
We have a number of types of lorry available to us and these can be chosen to suit requirements, i.e. where access is restricted. It is important to be aware that the lorries we use ordinarily do not possess any unloading equipment, as it is not part of the lorry drivers duty to unload trees, therefore we ask that there is a suitable number of people (or person!) available to unload the lorry at your delivery destination. If the trees ordered are larger than 85L, it will ideally be necessary to have some machinery available at the delivery site, i.e. in the form of a fork lift truck etc.
We can provide a lorry that has a hiab crane attached, however this option is additional to our standard delivery. To request a quote for the hiab service, or if you would like further information regarding delivery please contact Wes or Lee on 01353 720 748.
I have just received my delivery of Barcham Trees and am about to plant them. Do I need to take the container off?
The Light Pot™ is a white container design which was patented by Barcham Trees in 2003, it is designed to be a useful tool when planting in an urban situation. In urban environments, where space is limited, the bottom half of the container can be cut off, following the thumb print marks, and thus the top half will remain. The top half of the container then acts as a root barrier, encouraging roots to grow downwards.
The very top of the bag also acts as a mulch mat and can be used in conjunction with other materials for this purpose. If you are planting into a rural environment, or landscaped environment the whole container can be removed prior to planting as it is not necessary to try to control the root development.
For further info regarding planting please refer to our Planting Information.
